Celebrating the culmination of a three year partnership with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History and Zocalo Public Square in the national conversation, “What It Means To Be American,” the Daniel K. Inouye Institute is proud to bring home a discussion that is both timely and relevant in our country.
Moderated by Honolulu Star Advertiser columnist Lee Cataluna, former New York Times editorial board member Lawrence Downes, International Platinum-selling Recording Artist Jasmine Trias, comedian Augie T., and graphic designer and founder of Osaki Creative Group Kurt Osaki consider the upside and downside of Hawaii’s balmy insularity (what we take, keep, and hold dear wherever we go) in a rapidly shifting United States and an aggressively globalizing world.
Following the panel presentation, everyone is encouraged to expand and continue on the discussion of identity by participating in the Care Package Challenge where prizes will be given for the most unique (and perfectly packed) boxes! Students traveling back to school will receive a super-sized care package sent to them and a $100 donation will be made to the Hawaii Club of the winner’s choice!
